Mandatory Spring Trip Meeting
Wednesday, March 3 at 7:30pm in the theater
Chaperones will meet in the band room at 6:30pm
(Snow Date: Wednesday, March 10, same times and places)
Students participating in the Florida trip must attend this meeting with at least one parent. Every aspect of the trip will be discussed. Several forms will need to be filled out requiring a parent signature.
Please bring with you: The name, address and phone number of the student's primary care physician and health Insurance card so you will have the information needed to complete the forms. Chaperones will need the same information.
Medication: If the student will need to take prescription medicine while we are on the trip, a "medication authorization form" signed by your doctor will be required. Copies of the forms filed in the health room can be acquired by contacting school nurse Deidre Dorr @ 240-566-9451. Blank forms will be available at the trip meeting or can be downloaded on our Forms page. This form requires a doctor's signature, so please allow ample time to have it completed. Keith and Michelle Prather, our trip coordinators, will receive the copies from Mrs. Dorr directly. All other forms will be collected the night of our departure and should be turned in with the medication upon your arrival at LHS. This form is also required for over-the-counter medication, but needs only a parent signature, not a doctor's signature.
Immediately following this email, I will send out another with forms attached for those whose students will need to take medication on the trip. As mentioned above, these forms will also be available at the trip meeting and on our Forms page.
Thanks
Kevin Lloyd

Subject: Disney trip lodging plans
Folks,
We sometimes have families who plan to travel to Orlando at the same time as the band (as opposed to going on the bus along with the band as a chaperone, where spots are limited). We do not make lodging or ticket arrangements for these people, but we do try to keep everyone appraised of our plans as they develop so that you can make your own arrangements to stay at the same hotel, if you wish, or attend shows when we do, etc.
At this time, I can tell you that the band will be staying at Disney's Pop Century Resort, which is one of the park's "value" lodging options, the others being All Star Music, All Star Sports and All Star Movies, which are nearby. We will check in the evening of Sunday, March 28, 2010 and check out late in the evening on Friday, April 2, driving overnight and arriving back at Linganore around dinner time on Saturday April 3rd, and switching bus drivers in South Carolina on the way down and back.
I have attached a .pdf of the Pop Century resort, and a web archive file of the entire WDW property (Pop Century is #31 near the bottom of the map, south of Epcot. The Pop Century and All-Start resorts are essentially campuses that include a central building, several swimming pools, and ten 3-story buildings. As a student group, we will likely be placed far from the central building, "Classic Hall," which is where the food courts, gift shop, game room, and Disney bus pick-up and drop-off will be (Last time, we were in the '50's area, in the 2101-2472 building, but have no control over where we will put housed this time). If you are sensitive to walking longer distances and plan to stay at Pop Century (or the All-Star resorts, which are configured in a very similar way), you should request a room as close to the main building of the resort as possible.
For additional park and resort maps, visit www.wdwinfo.com.
If you have not traveled to Orlando or Disney previously and would like to know more about the parks and resorts, as well as hotel and dining options in the surrounding area, I strongly suggest that you purchase "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World" by Bob Sehlinger. This is an invaluable book that also includes information and ratings by age for all park attractions, as well as info about nearby Universal Studios and Sea World.
Thanks
Kevin Lloyd
