How does my student get where they need to go?
For competitions, parades, adjudication, diamond jubilee, and football state championships (if LHS goes), students are transported by school bus from LHS and returned to LHS.
For MOST All-County or All-State practices students/parents must self-transport to practice locations. The only exception in All-County is that there is typically a during the school day practice and for that one your student can be transported there by bus, if selected, or self-transport, but the students will NOT be returned to LHS by bus, so a parent would need to pick them up at the conclusion of practice. For the All-County concert, students/parents self-transport.
If the band participates in any other festivals, the transportation method will be communicated by the band director, but it is rare that our students do not travel by school bus.
For our Spring trips, students are transported by Motorcoach to our trip location. On occasion a student elects to fly to our destination with family at their own additional expense, but that doesn't happen often.
How do I get where I need to go?
If you are a chaperone for any of these events, you will travel on the bus with the students.
If you are a competition roadie, often times after loading our trucks and trailers, individuals will carpool to our competition location alongside our tow vehicles. You are also welcome to drive on your own. Generally the roadies that do not ride in one of the tow vehicles will need to park in spectator parking and walk to where the equipment trucks go.
If you are just going to watch the competition, game, or parade, transportation is your responsibility.

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to a Boosters board member, come to a meeting, ask a fellow band parent, or contact the band director.
Concert Only Students
Concert only students, sometimes referred to as "Spring Only" even though they participate in the winter concert are students who are not participating in marching band, but do participate in the Symphonic Band performances at LHS. Most marching students get measured for their concert uniforms in the summer or fall, but often the concert only students do not get measured until shortly before the winter concert. If it is one week out from that concert and your student has not been measured or informed of their date for measurement, please contact a uniform room representative or the booster president.
Concert only students pay a fee of $125 which helps to cover the costs of their uniform, repairs, and dry cleaning. They generally will receive their completed uniform in a garment bag, which they keep at home. All of these are provided by LHS and are usually loaned items returned after the spring concert. There are return and cleaning instructions that will be provided at that time. Sometimes students do purchase a new white shirt. If that occurs there is an additional charge to cover the cost of that shirt. Since there are usually not too many concert only students, if they have appropriate black shoes, similar to what the band has, they can use those, but if not, we usually have enough loaner pairs in the uniform room, but be sure to let the volunteers know you will need them.
Concert only students are welcome to participate in the spring trip as long as FCPS regulations on participation are followed. Please speak to the band director before the spring trip RSVP date (typically early in the school year) to discuss.
